Friday, June 13

For The Buckinghams, it all started with “Kind Of A Drag,” the #1 Billboard hit recorded by five teenagers from Chicago’s west side.  Additional hits including “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song”, “Susan”, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, and “Don’t You Care”, helped The Buckinghams earn the title of “Most Listened To Band in America” for 1967.

For the past two and half decades, The Buckinghams have successfully continued to tour the nation with their signature pop music.  Their live show is filled with harmony, spontaneity, humor, and a musical strength that includes their Billboard Top 40 hits, and a mix of sizzling favorites from pop and rock charts of the 1960’s and early 1970’s.  Hey baby, The Buckinghams will be playing your song on the Five Points Bank Main Stage at 7:00 pm.

Saturday, June 14

Jake Owen has stayed busy since his debut album release “Starting With Me.”  He has toured with Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, and Sugarland.  Along the way his single “Yee Haw” broke into the Billboard Top 20 Hot Country singles.  Other hits including “Starting With Me”, and “Something About A Woman” have made him on of the most promising new artists in country music.  Jake hits the Five Points Bank Main Stage at 6 pm, opening for The Bellamy Brothers.  Yee haw, ya’ll.

It’s difficult to name the biggest achievement for The Bellamy Brothers.  There are more than 28 albums, thirteen #1 singles, 30+ Top 10 hits and 52 chart singles.  It is no wonder that Howard and David Bellamy are the most nominated duo in the history of country music!

The Cottonwood audience will be singing along to hits like “Let Your Love Flow”, “Redneck Girl”, "Do You Love As Good As You Look”, “Old Hippie” and “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body”.  Howard Bellamy is quick to note that their live show is something not to miss.  “We just enjoy it.  It’s a lifestyle with us.”  Let your love flow with the Bellamy Brothers on the Five Points Bank Main stage at 7:30 pm.

The music starts long before anyone steps foot on the main stage.  The Cornhusker Press Stage On The Green is back with the perfect blend of Cottonwood favorites and new faces.

The stage opens with the always popular Soca Jukebox!  Soca Jukebox has established itself as one of the Midwest's most sought-after groups with a Caribbean steel drum infusion into one fun, rockin' band.  Taking their name from a popular Caribbean music style (soca is slang for "Soul Calypso"), the group performs traditional island music as well as more familiar contemporary hits. They give every song a unique Latin or Reggae twist, the very element that endears them to audiences.  Stir it up with the Midwest’s favorite party band at 11:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Also returning to Cottonwood in 2008 are The Nedwrecks.  Their classic, honky-tonk sound will have you dancing to hits of country music and rock-and-roll legends.  We dare you to find a Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams or Buddy Holly song they don’t know!  Catch The Nedwrecks at 12:45 pm.

Making their Cottonwood premier this year is a talented, young group right from Hastings.  Yardsale covers tunes ranging from The Beatles, U2, Bon Jovi and ZZ Top.  Not bad for a group fresh out of Adams Central High!  Welcome them to Cottonwood at 2:00 pm.

Join the Theatre of the American West as they present “Dr. Wizard Sagwa’s Medicine Show.” The snake oil they’ll be selling is not real – but the comedy, music and dance will be! This modern blend modern interpretation of traveling medicine sales is blended with historical accuracy. The result is a show that will keep audiences of all ages smiling. Make sure you also visit Republican City’s Theatre of the American West at www.totaw.org.

Join us in the Cottonwood Canopy on Saturday for the Prairie Moon Bellydance Troupe.  Out of the various styles of bellydance, the Prairie Moon Bellydancers practice Tribal Style.  This is their dance of choice because it is designed for the average women and accommodates all dance abilities.  The troupe incorporates props into their choreography such as zils, veils, and swords.  Ongoing classes of beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels are offered at the YWCA in Hastings.

Sunday, June 15

Show off your polka dance skills as Cottonwood clears the dance floor and welcomes the Ken Shuda Orchestra.  Ken and his orchestra will play all of your polka favorites… and requests are welcome!  The band’s high energy performance will ensure that you won’t be able to keep still.  Go ahead and dance.  You’ll thank us later.  The Ken Shuda Orchestra will perform on the Cornhusker Press Stage On The Green from noon to 3 pm.
